Course Description Recommended Prior Learning

Year 10 Te Reo Māori. Students who have not completed year 10 Te Reo Māori will need to apply separately for this course and complete a proficiency test before entrance into this course is approved. For information regarding applications please see Matua Ruka the Head of Te Reo Māori.

This is a full year course that is designed to develop year 11 students in Te Reo Māori to enable them to build upon the language skills developed at year 10. Students will be working toward a level where they will gain Excellence in Te Reo Māori at Level 1. Students will learn and practice oral, written and visual forms of Te Reo Māori. Each topic will have writing, reading, speaking and listening components. The teaching environment will be bilingual.

We are looking to add to this full year course the Te Ao Haka standards.  Te Ao Haka is apart of the study of Māori Performing Arts and this will be the first year that Massey High School will offer the programme.  Within Te Ao Haka students will learn about various art forms, techniques and narratives that make up Māori Performing Arts.  Te Ao Haka has been created so that students can obtain Achievement Standard credits through the programme and Māori Performing Arts.
