This course will enhance student’s opportunity to gain NCEA Level 2 and provide a platform for those who wish to continue in the Media Academy at Year 13. Students will also be aiming to gain their Level 2 National Certificate in Radio Foundation Skills. This qualification recognises a broad range of Media Studies skills and we will be covering a wide range of Media Industries. The course will encompass, journalism, radio broadcasting, radio presenting, film editing, analysis of film techniques and how society shape the media. It is a qualification suited for people seeking employment and/or further training and education through an accredited provider or through work-based training programs.
The students will also complete their English Level 2 credits through this course which will replace any other English class in Year 12. The idea of this, is they will use English as a way to further promote the skills needed to enter into the Media Industry and/or further study in this field.
This a course consists of two hours per day, combining work for English and Media Studies. Students also participate in a course at Whitireia, (NZ Radio Training School), an NZQA approved tertiary provider for one day per week for approximately 20 weeks. Here they refine their radio presenting and video skills in the radio studios of Whitireia. All the credits gained in the course contribute to the NCEA.
AIMS:
• To provide students with the opportunity to gain a qualification that recognises a broad range of entry level Media Industry skills and knowledge required by the Media industries.
• Promote knowledge and understanding of a range of media industry skills
• Apply these knowledge and skills to practical situations.
• Develop these essential skills in a range of media contexts
• Gain the ability to analysis Media texts
• Gain written and verbal skills needed in the Media Industries
