Level 1 DVC challenges your creative thinking skills, gives you an understanding of a broader range of designers and architects, takes your spatial design thinking to the next level, and has more of a focus on the influence design has on improving our lives as people and communities.
Term 1
Introduction to DVC through; drawing (2D elevations, 3D drawing, perspective drawing and modelling for drawing), development process and teaching the basics of Sketchup.
We start with researching famous architects to inspire the students own design ideas, the brief is a shelter at Massey High School. Students are experimenting with wire frame, paper and wooden block modelling to create designs that relate to design influences (architects).
Students begin to analyse the site and research the environmental conditions of their designs location.
Term 2
Students begin the iteration and development process. They begin to refine their design ideas to eventually pick concepts to develop. Students are using sketchup to make their final model.
The next internal they start is an extension of the first one - whereby they make a seat for the shelter that they have already designed. They are using their design thinking skills to iterate and engage with design requirements.
Term 3
Students carry on with the extension internal, incorporating new design knowledge like ergonomics and technical detail drawings.
Students work this term contributes to their external hand in in term 4
Term 4
Students are finishing off External, completion of project.
