Welcome to the Carpentry Academy

Could you see yourself in a building or construction career? Do you like working outdoors and with your hands? Would you like to be part of a 2- or 3-bedroom house build next year?

The Massey High School Carpentry Academy offers students the opportunity to learn foundational building knowledge and skills to kick start a building or trades career. 

The course contains the following.  

- Level 2 or 3 NCEA unit standards               - First Aid course                    - Technical drawing skills

- Paslode Certificate                                       - Site Safe certificate              - Quantity surveying skills

- Health & Safety training                              - Competence on carpentry tools (on-loan tools supplied)

No fees but you will be required to purchase an academy building uniform.

Students need to apply through the online selection process or see Mr Kanuta, Mr Hackett or Mr Tinling. Applications will be assessed, and interviews will follow.

Pathway

Level 3 Building Academy Full Time

All Academies are fees free, though students will need to purchase safety boots and Hi Vis construction gear. The Hi Vis construction gear can be purchased from the MHS Academy Office.



			
					
					Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
										

All the academies are fees free, which includes some bus transport. However, there are construction uniform costs. Note the Carpentry and Building Academy students will not need a normal MHS uniform, they will wear the Construction uniform. See Sarah Maxwell at the MHS academy office for details and supplies/suppliers. These are often obtained by the school for the students after payment made.
The construction uniform is:
• A good quality Orange hi viz polar fleece Parka or Orange Hi vis hoodie. (more are likely to use this colder option!)
• A set of Academy polo shirts
• Socks
• Orange Hi-vis Raincoat
• A good quality pair of safety boots
• Black cargo shorts or longs
