Level 1 Sports Development Programme

Sports Performance and Development – 15 credits
The level 1 Sports performance and development program is about developing highly skilled sports athletes into elite athletes by providing skill specific training and understanding their body – how it works and how it adapts to exercises.
Alongside the physical aspects in this program; we aim to foster life-long skills such as effective communication, leadership, self-management, social responsibility, problem-solving and work and study management.
Amongst this, we support students in finding and understanding their values, how it can impact their Hauora (well-being) and understanding the influences of the environment they’re growing up in.
Movement Strategies
1.1 Internal, 5 credits - Apply movement strategies in an applied setting.
Kotahitanga in Action
1.2 Internal, 5 credits - Demonstrate understanding of how Kotahitanga is promoted in movement through the application of strategies. (Interpersonal skills & self-management)
Sport, the bigger picture
1.3 External, 5 credits - Demonstrate understanding of the influence of personal movement experiences on hauora.

Recommended Prior Learning
Students are invited to fill out an application form online. The student should have the potential to represent the school at the Premier level.
Students may not study Physical Education 1 as well as being in Sports Performance and Development 1, because there are common standards that exist in both courses.
