In Media Studies we will explore Social Issues and Fake News as well as film making and editing. We will look at social media, main stream media and teach you to be a savy media consumer.

In today's digital age, understanding the truth behind media messages is more important than ever. This course empowers you to become a savvy media investigator, equipped with the skills to uncover social issues, recognise fake news, and express your ideas through the power of documentary filmmaking.

Throughout this course, you will engage in dynamic discussions and interactive activities that explore the impact of media on society and equip you with critical thinking abilities. Here's what you can expect to explore:

  1. Media and Social Issues: Discover how media shapes our understanding of important social topics, such as gender, race, inequality, politics, and the environment. Through fun and thought-provoking activities, you will analyse media content, understand its influence, and develop a broader perspective on the world around you.
  2. Detecting Fake News: Unravel the secrets of fake news and learn to distinguish fact from fiction in the digital world. We'll explore real-life examples of deceptive techniques used in media, and equip you with the skills to identify and combat fake news effectively. You'll become a media-savvy detective, equipped to navigate the online landscape with confidence.
  3. The Art of Documentary Filmmaking: Step into the shoes of a documentary filmmaker and discover the power of storytelling. You'll learn the step-by-step process of creating impactful documentaries, from research and planning to filming and editing. Through hands-on activities, you'll explore different documentary styles and techniques, and have the chance to create your very own documentary project, focusing on a social issue that resonates with you.
