Teacher in Charge: J. Crawford.
This Course builds upon learnings gained in Level 1 - extending practical skills, but emphasising the design aspect required to achieve a Resistant Materials outcome. Students need to be prepared to commit to the design journey.
Term 1
The beginning of the year will involve a number of quick fire design/build projects to stimulate design thinking. Practical skills will underwrite these projects and give students an idea of what they do understand and identify areas for growth.
This activity will lead into the first Project - AS91356 2.3 'Develop a conceptual design for an outcome.' Students will be lead into a variety of different design possibilities and supported to develop and refine their design through modelling and testing. Students will identify a stakeholder who they will engage with throughout this process.
Term 2
Students will continue with their Conceptual Design and develop it into a refined marquette.
This project will complete by mid term when students will then begin AS 91344 2.20 'Implement advanced procedures using resistant materials to make a specified product with special features.' Students will be encouraged to commit to a meaningful project - a real outcome for a real need.
Term 3
Term 3 will be dedicated to the completion of the specified product begun mid Term 2.
The later part of the Term will be in preparation for the external exam - 'AS 91363 2.1 'Demonstrate understanding of sustainability in design'.
Term 4
Term 4 will be dedicated to completing of any outstanding project work.
