Level 2 Dance
DAN201 Course DescriptionTeacher in Charge: T. Quintana.
Recommended Prior LearningStudy of Dance in Year 11 desired and/or competent dance experience in any given dance style. A high level of motivation and good attendance is essential or at the discretion of the Head of Department in exceptional cases.
Choreography
Students will focus on developing use of compositional components via a range of dance styles. They will have to create personalised movement for both group and solo performances, using compositional skills relevant to one or more dancers.
Dance Performance
Advanced study of dance techniques, strength and performance work that is explored via performance focusing on, ethnic, social, and theatrical dance styles.
Dance Perspectives
Component will focus on the analysis of a professional dance performance of chosen dance style/genre. This style /genre will be studied in depth by students looking at the significance, history, influences, development and socio/cultural context.
Dance is now looking at ways to use dance to assess English and Physical Education standard. The standards are:
English: Create a visual presentation
Physical Education: Demonstrates quality movement on a perform of a physical activity
