Recommended Prior Learning

NCEA Level 1 Science including AS90948 (Science 1.9). If the student does not pass Science 1.9 then course entry is at the discretion of the HOD Biology.


This course is varied and engaging, covering a wide range of practical skills as well as theory based biological learning. 

Content includes: 

*How different animals get oxygen in and carbon dioxide out of their bodies

*How cells divide, do photosynthesis and respire

*How genetic variation changes in a population

*What genes are and how they work to create your body

 *Analyse biological validity of information to separate out fact from fake

*A practical investigation on how water moves in to cells


This course is designed for students who will continue on with Biology at Level 3.
