ACDFAS
Course Description

Teacher in Charge: A. Bourneville

Recommended Prior Learning

Prior sewing experience is preferred but not essential.

We will be offering an After Hours Fashion Academy subject to numbers. It will run in the first three terms of the year on Tuesdays from 2pm to after school approx 5pm. Students already in another academy, including the normal Fashion Academy will not be able to apply.

Students who select this academy, will need to select five other subjects and will miss their “normal” period 5 subject on Tuesdays when the academy is running. Students will be expected to catch up on the missed work and be able to make their own way home.

Students enrolled in this course would gain the experience of using an Industrial plain sewing machine and an Industrial Overlocker whilst gaining level 2 or 3 credits. They will make their own Kimono/Skirt/Trouser/Duffle bag on an Industrial sewing machine.

Students will also learn about appropriate fabric choices for each project, how to follow a pattern, cut fabric, sewing and pressing skills. Sewing projects:

Term 1: Kimono

Term2: Skirt/Trouser

Term3: Duffle bag or garment of choice.

This course is available to Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 students. This is a unit standard based course. There are seventeen credits available, with five credits at Level 2 and twelve credits at Level 3. All the credits will count towards the NCEA.
