Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs L. Van Westrene

Students choose and research an era of fashion between Victorian and the 1990’s. They will then design a range of outfits inspired by the fashion from their chosen era. One of the outfits will then be made.

Course Overview

Term 1
Students choose an era between Victorian and the 1980's and research the era's events, technological and social developments and how they influenced the fashions of the time. They then design possible garments inspired by what they have learned. The students also work on their portfolio for writing a brief. During this term the students also learn about all the different kinds of pockets and incorporate 2 kinds within their designs

Term 2
Students trial the pockets and create a mock-up of their chosen pattern which reflects the era they have studied. Students then choose the fabric they will use for their final garment and research best practice for construction with the chosen fabric. Portfolio work is continued to be developed and completed.

Term 3
Final garment is constructed and external report on the years work begins towards the end of this term.

Term 4
Completion of external report and any missing work is completed
