Course Description

This course is made up of standards from Earth and Space Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. It is designed as a possible pathway for students who might do university degree or just have a general interest in Science.

Sci301 has 2 External (9 Credits) and 4 Internals (14 Credits) worth a total of 23 credits.  It will count as domain towards UE and has 15 credits towards UE literacy (reading) and 11 credits towards UE Literacy (writing).

Due to clashes with standards this is a standalone Science course and is not intended to be studied with Bio301, Chem301, Phy301 and/or ESS301.

Our specific areas of study are: Plastics in the environment, organic chemistry, how a speed gun works and how we know the universe is expanding, how we measure the distance to stars and galaxies, ozone production and the ozone hole, and human evolution.


Recommended Prior Learning

Students must gain at least 12 credits of level 2 Science in any of Sc 201, Bio 201, Chem 201, Chem 200, Phys 201 of which a minimum of 3 NCEA credits must be from the external examination.
