Level 1 Health

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: S. Lang

An in-depth study of well-being and the holistic concept of Hauora. Students develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to make informed, responsible, health-enhancing decisions and to act in ways that contribute to their personal well-being, the well-being of other people, and of society as a whole. Areas of study include understanding Hauora; considering the influences on adolescent eating patterns; factors that contribute to changing states of health and well-being; understanding skills required to enhance relationships; exploring the concept of positive sexuality; and understanding factors that influence drug use.

Health Education continues onto NCEA Levels 2 and 3 and into Tertiary Education. It is an approved subject for University Entrance.


Recommended Prior Learning

Some prior junior Health Education preferred and a strong interest in health and well-being recommended.
