Level 1 Dance
Course Description

Dance is physical communication. In this course you will move, create, perform, watch, talk and write about dance. You will develop your performance skills of confidence, strength, agility, co-ordination, safe dance practice and performance expression in a range of dance styles including contemporary and breakdance. You will communicate ideas by applying dance elements and devices to choreograph dance sequences. We learn to describe dance, explain how ideas are seen in dance and explain how a dance style reflects its background.
The course will comprise of 3 of the 4 standards listed below worth a total of 15-16 credits.
Recommended Prior Learning
Study of Dance in Year 10 desired and/or competent dance experience in any given dance style. A high level of motivation and good attendance is essential or at the discretion of the Head of Department in exceptional cases.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Device, exercise book, pen. There may be contributions to trips. You are expected to bring dance gear to every lesson.
Pathway
This course develops skills important for any job such as self-discipline, self-confidence, collaboration, creative thinking, problem solving, communication (non-verbal, verbal and written), critical thinking, resilience, perseverance, group skills. Dance is a University Entrance approved subject so it helps you get into university courses. Dance supports careers such as physiotherapist, dancer, choreographer, designer, events manager, producer, arts coordinator, teacher, lecturer, rehearsal director, actor.
