Level 1 Design and Visual Communication

Students will use and develop their foundational drawing and design knowledge gained in 10DVC to resolve more comprehensive design briefs.
With a focus on influential designers and movements within spatial and product design, students will develop their skills in planning, time management, identifying and meeting the needs of a design brief and exploring and refining ideas with an emphasis on a chosen designer or design movement.
Students will continue to grow their understanding in visual communication principles in order to fulfill a presentation brief to present their work.
At Level 1, students are expected to complete at least 5-10 hours of work a week outside of class time.
Note: To take this course as well as Fabric Technology 101 students must obtain prior approval from the HODs of both subject areas. Refer to the standards that are doubled up in other areas.
Note that AS 91067 is also studied in the Fabric Technology course. While students may with the approval of both HODs study towards AS 91067 in both Design & Visual Communications 101 and Fabric Technology 101, the 3 credits cannot be counted twice.
Recommended Prior Learning
Satisfactory performance in Years 9 and/or 10 DVC, or entry by negotiation with HOD Design and Visual Communication.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
A set of pencils (2H, H, HB, B, 2B), 2 erasers, ruler.
This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
Total Credits Available: 19 credits.
Externally Assessed Credits: 3 credits.
Internally Assessed Credits: 16 credits.
