The achievement standards in this course are on the approved list for university entrance.
Course Overview
Term 1
Students take detailed measurements and create a cardboard Pattern block which reflects their body shape. This shape is then cut out with a seam allowance added. This is then stitched together and fitted on them. Any corrections are made. In this term they need to choose a possible occasion and start to research specialty fabrics.
Term 2
Once specialty fabrics are chosen, possible designs are explored and availability of fabric is assessed a final choice is made. Students next learn pattern making using quarter scale, before embarking on making their own pattern from their cardboard block. The next step is to make a mock-up of their garment out of similar fabric to check fit and style features. Once completed and fitted a final pattern complete with instruction sheet is produced.
Term 3
The final garment can now be constructed. Before the end of term, the students start on their external which is a report on their years work.
Term 4
Students complete their external and other incomplete work.
