Level 3 Fabric Technology UE Approved
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: L. Van Westrene.
Students will complete 2 units of work. In the first unit students will experiment with specialty fabrics then create a waistcoat or skirt using one of the specialty fabrics. In the second unit students learn to make a pattern from body measurements. A mock up of a similar waistcoat or skirt and instructions on on how to construct the garment will be completed.
The achievement standards in this course are on the approved list for university entrance.
Course Overview
Term 1
Students experiment with specialty fabrics (satin, lace, fur, leather sheer, sequins, velvet). A pattern is chosen and students start by constructing the garment as a mock up and then a final garment isb started.
Term 2
Final garment is completed.
Term 3
The students take detailed measurements and create a cardboard Pattern block which reflects their body shape. This shape is then cut out with a seam allowance added. This is then stitched together and fitted on them. Any corrections are made. A skirt or waistcoat is designed and mock up is constructed and an instruction sheet is written. Before the end of term, the students start on their external which is a report on their years work.
Term 4
Students complete their external and other incomplete work.
Recommended Prior Learning
Must have successfully completed Level 1 or 2 NCEA Technology - Fabrics or by arrangement with the HOD.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
A4 ringbinder and plastic pockets.
