Level 2 Fashion Academy

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ariane Bourneville

The Fashion Academy offers the Level 2 National Certificate in Clothing Manufacture and a pathway into the Creative Industries.

This two year hands on course offers both level 2 and level 3 credits plus provides students with training on industrial sewing machinery, an experience of Tertiary study at NZ Fashion Tech and some work experience within the local fashion industry.
The course is very practical and the students are on the sewing machines daily, refining their skills and always learning new ones. Students will leave with two years of industrial sewing experience, placing them well ahead of other fashion students of the same age group.

The Year 12 course begins with an introduction to the plain sewer and overlocking machines plus health and safety. The students learn to a adapt patterns and then create a wrap skirt of their own design, followed by a bag or luggage item and a garment of their choice.
Students in the Fashion Academy work towards achieving the Level 2 National Certificate in Clothing Manufacture and a pathway into the Creative Industries. All work completed throughout the course is NCEA accredited, with 57 Level 2 credits offered.
Our goal is for our students to finish the course with confidence on industrial sewing machinery, an experience of tertiary study and some work experience within the local fashion industry, which provides them with references for future work opportunities.
