Course Description

This is a course to help Year 13 students prepare their next steps in school and beyond.
Based on feedback from students, teachers, and other community members, this is built around a series of opt-in modules for students, like:
- Finance - opening bank accounts, budgeting, paying bills, credit vs debit, buying houses, insurance, investing, saving, loans, how to manage student loans, taxes etc.
- Owning a car - drivers licensing (theory and possibly practical), basic vehicle maintenance, owning a car
- University Preparation - applying for universities, scholarships, applying for halls of residence
- Joining the workforce - finding a career, finding a job, applying for jobs
- Renting - applying for rentals, reading and understanding contracts, paying bills, renting rights and responsibilities
- Looking after yourself - including basic home fitness and nutrition, making good choices for the environment, how to deal with bullying and supporting your own mental health, civic engagement, staying motivated, legal rights
- Other opportunities such as - volunteer work, politics, current events, Te Reo Māori and tikanga, computer literacy, travelling.
These modules will be delivered along with a foundation of academic mentoring & counselling, careers counselling, and support in keeping on top of the work in your other classes to get you to the places you want to go.
This course is an evolving programme based on student need.
