Course Description

This course can lead students to University/Tertiary study. Physical Education Level 3 involves both theory and practical lessons. The course focuses on the academic study of; physical fitness, training principles and anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, an analysis of a sports activity, skill acquisition, and sports performance.
The NCEA Physical Education Level 3 course aims to further enhance the student's skills and knowledge of the physical education concepts they developed at NCEA levels 1 and 2 by;
- Developing the student's understanding of how the body works and responds to exercise through biomechanical and biophysical principles.
- Developing the student’s knowledge of movement and skilled performance through the understanding of skill learning, skill development, and skill analysis.
- Developing a deeper understanding of the concepts of Hauora, the benefits of healthy lifestyles, and the strategies to create and maintain healthy living.
- Enhancing further the student's understanding of the environment that they live and grow up in.
- Providing the students with opportunities to develop the morals, values, and beliefs that will make them positive members of the school environment and the wider community.
- Providing students with opportunities to learn and understand the importance of fair play and socially responsible behaviour
- Creating a learning environment that is fun, accepting, and inclusive.
Recommended Prior Learning
14 credits or more in Physical Education Level 2. Admission into the course is at the discretion of the HOF of PE.
