Level 3 English Language

Course Description

This course prepares ESOL students in reading, writing, listening and speaking skills for academic university study. It is an option to get literacy credits for university entrance instead of Level 3 English. The class is smaller so more 1 on 1 attention is given to UE Literacy.

Note: if a student chooses to do this course, they do not need to do another English course unless they want to.

In this course there are assessments in reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

NCEA English Language Unit standards Level 3. English Level 2. English for Academic Purposes Level 3 and 4 standards are offered.

Students may not do all the standards listed below. The course will be tailored to suit individual student needs.

Term 1
Topic based - Listening, Speaking and Writing (UE Literacy) plus NCEA Level 3 assessments in these skills.
Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure are also covered.

Term 2
Topic based - Reading (UE Literacy) and Writing (UE Literacy) plus NCEA Level 2 and 3 assessments in these skills.
Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure are also covered.

Term 3
Topic based - Reading and Writing (UE Literacy) plus NCEA Level 2 and 3 assessments in these skills.
Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure are also covered.

Final assessments

Recommended Prior Learning

Advanced Intermediate to Advanced.
Achievement of some NCEA Level 2 credits.
