Level 3 Dance

Course Description

In this course, students will have the opportunity to expand their dance skills by delving into the vocabularies, practices, and technologies of various dance forms. They will be encouraged to take the initiative and explore their own choreographic ideas, developing and performing dance works that align with their chosen artistic intent. Additionally, students will have the chance to investigate and appreciate the connections between dance and other disciplines, as they critically analyse and respond to their own, their peers', and professionals' dance works. The course will also involve selecting, promoting, and performing a program of dance works, giving students practical experience in curating their own dance presentations. Furthermore, students will delve into research, examining the contributions of selected individuals or groups to the realm of dance in New Zealand, deepening their understanding of the local dance scene and its historical and contemporary significance.

Recommended Prior Learning

Study of Dance in Year 12 desired and/or competent dance experience in any given dance style. A high level of motivation and good attendance is essential or at the discretion of the Head of Department in exceptional cases.
