Level 1 Fabric Technology
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: L. Van Westrene.
This course will be helpful preparing students for a future in the field of fashion. Students will design and create a garment for a chosen occasion.
This course is a pathway that includes university approved credits at Yr13.
This course cannot be taken in conjunction with Food technology or Resistant Materials Technology as they all teach the same standards.
Course Overview
Term 1
The students choose their event, research it, and design possible garments suitable to be worn at the event. Look into possible patterns available, research available materials, and get stakeholder feedback.
Term 2
Students choose a pattern which is close to their chosen design and compare their measurements to the patterns measurements and make necessary adjustments for fit or design. Students need to research techniques suitable for their garment and fabric choice. A mock-up or prototype is then constructed to ensure they have adapted the pattern to get the correct look and size. All this work is recorded by photos and written explanation in their portfolio Final brief can be written once fabric is chosen.
Term 3
Students will purchase their final chosen fabric. Students will trial their chosen techniques on that fabric and choose the ones they believe to be best for their fabric and garment. Final garment is constructed.
Term 4
Completion of their external and any other outstanding work is carried out.
Recommended Prior Learning
Students do not have to have taken Fabric Technology in previous years, although it is preferred.

A4 ringbinder and plastic pockets.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
