Level 2 English Language
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: C. Linnen.
This course is for ESOL / NESB students and supports language acquisition across all subject areas through developing basic skills in reading and writing, speaking and listening. Students begin preparing for University Entrance Literacy in this course.
Note: if a student chooses to do this course, they do not need to do another English course unless they want to.
METHODS OF ASSESSMENT:
Various oral and visual and written methods.
NCEA Unit Standards English Language Level 2 and 1 English for Academic Purposes Level 3 assessment.
Students may not do all the standards listed below. The course will be tailored to suit individual student needs.

Term 1
Topic based - Reading and Listening plus NCEA Level 2 assessments in these skills.
Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure are also covered.
Term 2
Topic based - Writing and Speaking plus NCEA Level 2 assessments in these skills.
Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure are also covered.
Term 3
Topic based - Reading (English for Academic Purposes) plus NCEA Level 2 assessment in this skills.
Higher level skills, such as summarisng, paraphrasing, are also covered.

Intermediate.
This course is designed to suit the needs of those students who have achieved some proficiency in reading and written English.
