Te Ao Haka 201
Course Description
Te Ao haka is a kaupapa Māori, Mātauranga Māori learning opportunity available to Māori Medium and English Medium students.
It is a program that allows students to embrace, build appreciation, and Te reo Māori through the Māori performing art of Kapa haka.
In this program you will study, analyse, critique, compose, choreograph, and teach aspects of kapa haka. There are also cross curricular opportunities available for you in both Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and The New Zealand Curriculum.
There are two internal assessments and two external assessments that you can complete throughout the year.
And, because you are learning kapa haka, you will also gain Māori performing arts credits.
With Aotearoa, New Zealand embracing Te Ao Māori, we will also be representing Massey High school on the competitive and performance stage.
Te Ao Haka 101: Students will focus their study on the fundamentals of Kapa haka. Analysing different key features and their different iwi variation.
Te Ao Haka 201: Students will focus on building upon the fundamental aspects of Kapa haka and start composing items, choreographing actions, and formations for a kapa haka item.
